How the number gets made
Three things move the read, and then it is ranked. Nothing else gets a vote.
Warm nights hold them back
Tonight's temperature against what it has been this week. A warm night pulls the read down; what a cold night does on its own is still being worked out.
Moon down, coyotes up
The moon's height, not how bright it is. A high moon holds them; the moon-down hours are when they move. It speaks to movement — are they on their feet — not to whether one answers the call.

The Hunt Index is a rank from 0 to 100 — a 78 ranks better than 78 of every 100 nights. It is a place in line, not a percent chance.
