Logging
Logging a Kill
Start to finish — the hunt flow, the ladder, and what each step asks for.
UPDATED · September 10, 2026
CoyoteEdge's log is built around one idea: ask for the highest thing that happened, and derive everything else from it. You'll never see a long form — each step is one or two taps.
Starting the hunt
- START HUNT — pick SOLO or GROUP. That's the only choice this step asks for.
- START SET — once you're posted up, tap it. This is what starts the real clock on your stand.
On stand
With a set running, the calls you run are logged as chips as you run them — tap a call when you play it, and it's timestamped. There's a NO CALL chip too, for a stand where you deliberately ran nothing (the chip is the data point; an empty row just means you never opened the picker). A + NEW CALL option opens a small picker for anything not already in your library, and any call you run from there gets saved for next time.
The howl button sits at the top of the screen the whole hunt. Tap it the moment you hear a howl, and it stamps that exact time — it's not a question the app asks you later, it's a fact the button records when it happens.
Closing the stand
When you're done on a stand, you choose one of two doors:
- DRY SET — nothing happened. One tap, it saves, you're back on ROLLING.
- LOG SET — something happened. This opens the ladder.
The ladder
The ladder asks for the highest thing that happened on the stand — KILLED ⇒ CAME IN ⇒ SEEN — and everything under that tier is derived automatically. You never have to separately confirm that a coyote that was killed also came in and was seen.
After the ladder:
- Count — how many coyotes were involved at that tier.
- How — called, stalked, or chance. This defaults to called, but only on a logged stand — a dry stand carries no "how" at all, because nothing happening has no story to tell about how it happened.
- Photo — go to the camera, or save with no photo. A kill needs a photo to be verified and to post to the feed.
Every step after the first carries a back button — there are no confirmation dialogs anywhere in this flow. Back is the undo.
TIP
"How" exists to keep the record honest about calling. A coyote you stalked up on and killed proves coyotes were moving, not that they answered a call — so the record keeps the two apart.
Ending the hunt
END HUNT asks one question: every stand logged? Default is yes. If you genuinely sat a stand without ever tapping START SET, answer no — it's the honest answer. The night still logs in full; it just gets no Beat the Forecast verdict and doesn't count toward that record or streak, since the forecast can't be graded fairly against a night that isn't all on the record.
